YAZIYOR…

Communications Officer
Yazıyor… by İrem Aycı, Senior Brand Executive at Havas Istanbul, is officially on air. For Dare!, İrem shares more about her interactive global newsletter, how she came up with the idea and why she loves working on it from night until morning.

What is the meaning behind the name Yazıyor…?

The word Yazıyor…translates to Typing… in English. It was the first name that came to mind when I started this project, but it also perfectly describes the way I operate. I was inspired by the placeholder text you see in many chat programs such as WhatsApp; the anticipation you feel when the other person is writing a message.

“Typing…, What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you see those three dots blinking?

Just wait… someone is writing a message for you… and this message will be sent to you as text. That was exactly what I was doing the moment I came up with the newsletter, composing a thought, and that is what I will continue to do. I have ideas to share, as well as people to introduce to my audience who appreciate sharing these ideas with a literary audience in Turkey.

To sum it up, the name Yazıyor… fits an interactive newsletter that serves this basic purpose.

Tell us more about the work you put into this newsletter.

“Yazıyor… became the visible form of the library of curiosities entangled in my mind.

This blog was created as a platform for me to write about my interests such as marketing, advertising and artificial intelligence technologies. Although it is quite new, it has slowly started to attract people’s attention thanks to its ideology and content knowledge.

One day I came across the articles I wrote in college. I opened a folder filled with assignments and exam papers and got lost in it — that day, I read my texts in the third person and I loved it! Based on that experience, I have two starting points that help me shape my content range: my own ideas and what other people want to express.

I have an assertive nature and I don’t hesitate to express my ideas, however, including the perspectives and expertise of others only strengthens my content. As the newsletter evolved, the people I talked to started to add new things, so I changed direction: “Seriously, everything we would love to read about humanity!” This is my new motto. What does this mean? In my opinion, those who can best tell us about humanity are found in the most remote corners, the most marginal poles of the world.

All of the people I talk to for Yazıyor… are always very thorough and worth reading. When I produce, I usually let myself go with the flow of the agenda and take care to diversify my content with prose, translations, interviews and much more content coming very soon…

Can you talk more about its content?

Yazıyor… is currently growing day by day. I have no intention of stopping.”

If you take a look at Yazıyor…, you will see articles written in 3 different genres covering various topics for now. These are as follows:

  • My own articles, in which I write about my own ideas through research.
  • The Essay Residency Series, as I call it, which is a series of translated essays by renowned content creators from around the world. Here, I communicate one-on-one with the author, asking questions directly to produce the work in an interactive collaboration. This, of course, greatly increases the quality and dedication of the work.
  • Yazıyor Talks, which is an interview series that focuses on CEOs, board members, and people in managerial positions. Over time, more names will join the series, forming a hub through Yazıyor… for both the interviewees and the audience. The fact that leaders from competing agencies are reading each other’s interviews on this common platform sheds light on the individuals themselves as well as their coworkers.

What is your hope for the future of Yazıyor…?

Eleanor Roosevelt once said, The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams’ and I couldn’t agree more.

I am thrilled with the direction my newsletter, Yazıyor…, is taking. In all modesty, it is a unique publication, and I am committed to turning it into a platform that offers something for everyone who loves to browse magazines.

While the essence of the content will remain the same, I anticipate it will evolve over time. The future I envision for Yazıyor… is nothing short of ‘dazzling’. Who knows, this might even be the first of many interviews for such a prestigious magazine.

My top priority is to diversify the content and encourage writers from various backgrounds and disciplines to contribute. I won’t spoil anything, but let’s just say that we will see some exciting changes in the near future. I am filled with anticipation for what’s to come and am thrilled to share my excitement with you. Thank you for considering my thoughts.
